A while back I wrote an essay on how there are 8 weeks left of school. Today I realize there 8 days. EIGHT DAYS. Seven for my eighth grader, and my now a junior is asleep still as her last day was last Thursday.
So I’m resharing this essay because the end of the school year is special. No matter if it is 2nd grade or 4th grade or 8th grade or High School. These are the days we will remember always and hold in our hearts.
I’m photographer and part of my job is to remind people why photographs matter. I think everyone should have a small session at the end of the school year. Mark this passage of time before it is gone. You will never be sorry you did. You can book a pocket session for $175 and you will ALWAYS be glad you spent that money. Not so much money when you spread it out over the years. The years you will remember just how tall they grew or how they could still fit in your lap.

Eight weeks. Eight weeks is all that’s left before summer break. It’s always bittersweet this round up at the end of the year. Pants are growing too short, wrists are beginning to show on longsleeve shirts, backpacks look decidedly more disreputable than they did at the beginning of the year. The baby teeth that have fallen out, the big teeth that have grown in( or not), the middle schoolers are taller, lankier, smellier… Beautiful and awkward at this in this stage. For me this year means I have another child leaving his primary years and heading to high school. As it should be -but, oh, still it causes a tug on my heart. These funny in between stages … for the middle schoolers there is such a strange, humorous, wonderful grace to them – not adult, not child.
The years go by very quickly, as they do and I am grateful that I’m a photographer. I’m not waiting till the picture is perfect to take it, I’m not waiting till there’s a sunny day, till the braces are gone, til the hair grows out, til the teeth grow in. They are beautiful as they are. We so often wait, we mean to do it, saying we will do a photo shoot when the weather is beautiful, when the leaves are turning colors , when the children are older, when the family is visiting, when we’ve lost 5 pounds, but the time is now-there has actually never been a better time to document these amazing, chaotic, beautiful lives we live.
So yes, you should call me and you should book a session. And I could tell you all about how memories matter, and how you’ll never spend any money that will last quite as long as these images do… And that’s all true. But mostly I’m going to tell you that I will be photographing my own children, and that in a year I will be grateful for those pictures and in five years and in 10 years and in 40 years. I will be glad I didn’t wait till they were older, til the teeth came in, til the zit it was gone, til I was skinny. ( because it’s nice when the parents are in the picture too, sometimes!)
So book a session with me, there are pocket sessions, perfect for just the kids, there are regular sessions.( You can visit my pricing page for all the information–
Here) We can go to parks, we can go to your favorite place, we can go to THIER favorite place, I can come to your house and take pictures of you all just hanging out and playing games or making dinner.
Do it. Because time flies.
